Just Like Heaven

Sunset 1

Twilight, Oxwich Point

Sunset Over the Dunes

Evening Towards Three Cliffs

Just returned from a week in Oxwich, Gower. Although the weather was fine, the beach was so quiet that at times it felt like being on a desert island. I’m going to make a painting from the first of these photos.

Finished?

Stormy Skies

Oil on canvas, 61 x 61cm

Sometimes I know when a painting is finished – there’s a sort of “Ta-dah!” moment when there’s not a thing more to be done. Sometimes I’m less sure and have to force myself to down tools or I’ll carry on painting forever. This was one of the latter occasions. I’m going to hide this painting from myself and look at it again in a few weeks’ time.

New Paintings

“Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth

And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings…”

From ‘High Flight’ by John Gillespie Magee

Oil on canvas, 20.5 x 39cm

The colours in this are a little brighter in the flesh – photographing paintings in Wales in February is a challenge! Even the lightest room in the house was rather gloomy today. I’ll change the picture if I manage to take a better one.

Oil on canvas, 30 x 40.5cm

I think I’m going to continue to work on this painting. I want the clouds to be softer at the edges, and heavier and more ominous. I do like an ominous cloud.
