#MillionsMissing

red-shoes

Today, protesters are leaving empty shoes in public spaces in cities across the world to raise awareness of the debilitating illness M.E. The shoes represent the #MillionsMissing.

Millions of people worldwide, missing from the lives they want to live.

Millions of pounds/dollars/euros, missing from serious, rigorous biomedical research.

Or look out for empty pairs of shoes in your city, and say hi to the protesters!

Sometimes…

sometimes-art-journal-page

Art journal page using coloured ink, wax crayon, biro, watercolour pencil, and words from ‘Sometimes’ by Sheenagh Pugh. My mum’s had this poem pinned up at home for about 20 years, but it never stops feeling relevant, and hopeful. Every time it says “man”, feel free to add “or woman”, if that’s what’s happening in your part of the world!

“The world is not respectable, it is mortal, tormented, confused, deluded for ever, but it is shot through with beauty, with love, with glints of courage and laughter.”  – George Santayana

Finished?

Stormy Skies

Oil on canvas, 61 x 61cm

Sometimes I know when a painting is finished – there’s a sort of “Ta-dah!” moment when there’s not a thing more to be done. Sometimes I’m less sure and have to force myself to down tools or I’ll carry on painting forever. This was one of the latter occasions. I’m going to hide this painting from myself and look at it again in a few weeks’ time.
